Badminton Manawatu run a range of tournaments during the year, which are aimed at a range of abilities from graded social tournaments that include beginners to sanctioned Opens that attract the top regional players.

In 2022, we plan to run the following tournaments:
SANCTIONED OPENS
A Badminton NZ sanctioned event which is open to everyone. Sanctioned events are how players win NZ ranking points. This event often attracts the top players from around the central and lower North Island in the respective age group, as well as containing a strong local participation.
Usually we run all five events: boys/mens singles, girls/womens singles, boys/mens doubles, girls/womens doubles, and mixed doubles. Due to the size of the draw, these are usually run as knock-out events, with plate events used to provide everyone with 2 or 3 matches per event entered. For junior sanctioned events, round robins are used as much as possible.

SOCIAL TOURNAMENTS
In addition to the regular Thursday Night Badminton League, School Competitions, and Clubs that operate, we also run social tournaments, aimed at participation and providing appropriate competitive badminton in a friendly, fun and social atmosphere. These tournaments do not offer NZ ranking points and are run for the benefit of our local community, but do sometimes attract players from the wider region.
