In the girls singles draw Manawatu players made up 6 of the 9 players in the draw and 3 of the 4 doubles pairs in the draw.

Rebecca Ye made the finals of the girls singles but ended up runner up after a tough 3 set battle with Niamh Alley who also knocked out Manawatu’s Pryanka Archarya in the semi-finals.

In the boys singles sole Manawatu entrant Arrooran Jeyamohan was beaten in the first round by Linford Rota.

Pryanka and Rebecca came runner up in the doubles. They lost to eventual winners Niamh Alley and Alexander Langley by two points 15 – 13 in the 3rd game.

Under 17s

Congratulations to Ruawai Te Rata who won the girl’s doubles with her Partner Pingkan Polak and the mixed doubles with partner Elliot Pike. She also made the semi’s of the girls singles and congratulations also to Joseph Wilson who came runner up in the boy’s doubles with partner Yao Lik Chun.

Joseph Wilson made the semi’s of the boy’s singles going down to eventual winner Elliot Pike who knocked out fellow Manawatu player Thomas Lavender in the quarter finals. Reports I have received, indicate that both Manawatu players played well, showing nice touches and the standard of badminton was of a high quality. This bodes well for their Palmerston North Boy’s High School Badminton team who leave this morning for the National Secondary School’s tournament up in the North Shore.

Honourable mention to Kavithya Senithilnathan who fought hard but lost in three to Nykayla Johnson in the girl’s singles and then had another very close mixed doubles tussle with Nykayla & her partner in the mixed doubles.

Sunday August 29

Congratulations to Josh Curry who won the boy's singles and the boy's doubles with partner Jacob Morgan.

Josh's hardest match of the day was a close 3 games against Angus Crawford of Hawkes Bay.
