Manawatu Secondary Schools Competition

Manawatu Badminton hosted the Manawatu Secondary Schools Competition for the first this year.

It took place in the second term over 9 Mondays from 3.45 - 5.00 pm beginning on April 26 and finishing on Monday June 28 in the B&M Centre and The Ballroom at Arena Manawatu.

Teams consisted of four players and each team played 6 games of doubles. We had to cut out the singles because of the large number of teams entered and the fact that another booking at Arena prevents us from holding another round.

Each player was gauranteed 3 games of doubles, so there was plenty of fun to be had.

Each tie took place on one court, and each game was up to 21 with no extension or finished after 10 minutes. The team with the most points after 10 minutes was completed, were the winners.

Each doubles game was worth 6 points for a win. The losing pair gained 3 points if they are within 5 points of the winners, or 1 point if they were within 10 points.

Congratulations to Awatapu Senior Grils who won the Senior Girls Competition.

Congratulations to Freyberg High School Senior Boys 1 who won the Boys Competition. (This had Juniors & Seniors Combined because of the lack of boys teams entered.)

Congratulations to the Freyberg Junior Girls 1 team who won the Junior Girls Competition.

Credit goes to the St Peters Junior Girls team for finishing 4th in the Junior Girls Competition having only started in the 4th week of the competition, they were the big movers.
