Racqueteers

Racqueteers is a Badminton New Zealand programme that is being piloted in selected regions in 2010/11. Manawatu is one of the regions that is piloting the programme.

Racqueteers is a resource that will be available for coaches, teachers, physical education teachers, parents or anyone wanting to organise a badminton programme.

It contains elements of the Kiwi badminton programme, basic badminton skills, and fundamental movements skills.

It is a fun and safe way of introducing badminton to children at a primary school level.

Part of the resource is 3 portable nets, and full sized and half sized racquets. This has enabled the programme to be delivered in school halls of all different sizes and shapes to children from years 1 to 8.

Schools that we have worked with so far are Hokowhitu, Our Lady of Lourdes, Russell Street, Ashhurst, Waituna West, Palmerston North Intermediate, Awapuni, Somerset and Mt Biggs School.

Here in the Manawatu, Tura Rata, the development officer has also incorporated many elements from Graham Feist's successful and long running Whanganui schools programme .

Click here to see a sample of the Resource for 8 - 10 yr olds.(The programme also caters for 5 - 7 yr olds but this is not included in the sample.

Racqueteers is the perfect way to prepare  school teams for the Mnawatu Primary Schools Badminton Competition which takes place in the first term of each year, it had it's inauguration in 2011, click here for details.

Contact Tura Rata if you would like to know more about Racqueteers.
