Oroua Champs - Jnr Results

Thanks to Jerry Varghase for photos above

Manawatu had a big contingent of Manawatu Juniors playing in the Oroua Age Championships yesterday Sunday May 2nd.

Reports were that there was 40 more entries than last year and I believe Manawatu would have been a significant contributor to the boost in numbers.

Well done to all our players and parents.

Congragulations to Ruawai Te Rata who was the only Manawatu player to win a title. She won the U17 Girls Doubles with her regular doubles partner Emily Beard of Wanganui & the U17 Mixed Doubles with her regular mixed doubles partner Elliot Pike of Hutt Valley.

Congratulations to Rebecca Ye who made the final after beating fellow team member Charlotte Stock in the semi finals. She lost the final to Niamh Alley from Hawkes Bay, who is from a talented badminton family.

Pryanka Archayva won the Plate final after beating fellow Manawatu player Caitlin Bartosh.

Boys Singles U13

Junius Ong made the Semi Finals after beating fellow team member Chris Varghese in a very entertaining game. He lost his semi to Benjamin Cook of Wellington who on went to claim the title.

Honorable mention goes to Cameron Loughran who had a tough 3 setter against Victor Francis who missed out on making the final by two points.

Cameron did a lot of umpiring through out the day and was impressive, with a strong clear voice. A definite prospect for the next umpiring course!
