Many of our U17 & U13 players were contesting the Hutt Valley Junior Champs on Saturday May 15 in Naenae.
Congragulations to Arrooran Jeyamohan and Chris Varghese who were runner ups in the Boys U13 Doubles.
Arrorran also did well to make the semi-finals for the U13 Boys Singles. A tough day for all the other Manawatu boys, Wei Lim, Chris Whitson & Chris Varghese who all lost their first round games.
U13 Girls Singles, U13 Mixed and U13 Girls Doubles results have not yet been posted.
Congratulations to Manawatu pair Thomas Lavender and Xinyuan Xao who made the semi finals of the U17 Boys doubles and to Joesph Wilson who continues a run of fine form to make the semi-finals for the U17 Boys Singles.
He was also runner-up in the boys doubles with June Bevan team mate and Wgtn player Yao Lik Chun.
Ruawai Te Rata made three finals and was runner up in the U17 Girls Singles, Girls Doubles & Mixed Doubles but was unable to win any titles. Both her doubles and mixed doubles went to 3 sets and she lost to the same pairings that she had beaten two weeks before at Oroua.
Gutted was the main theme of communications she sent from the stadium on saturday night.
- Sunday May 16 - Under 19s and U15s
Congratulations to Manawatu Player Joshua Curry who won the under 19 Boys Singles.
He beat Hong Quan in the final in two sets. His quarter final and semi-final matches were hard 3 game affairs where he met the regions two top ranked U17 players one after the other.
Good one Josh especially after having such a hard road to the final.
Ruawai Te Rata & Elliot Pike (Hutt Valley) made it to the under 19 Mixed Doubles Final where they lost to Jacob Morgan & Alyse Derby, the same pair Ruawai met in the under 17 Mixed Doubles Final the day before with the same result.
Ruawai did manage to win the U19 Girls Doubles with her partner Emily Beard from Wanganui. It was a round robin contest in which they lost one game along with one other pairing but won it on overall points.
In the under 15 competition Manawatu had Matthew Wapp, Brandon Rose and Daniel Skarott competing.
Congratulations to Matt & Brandon who were runner ups in U15 Boys Doubles.
Matthew lost his singles to eventual winner Wei -Ming Lim in his first game. Brandon lost his 2nd round game. Danielle lost to Nikayla Johnstone an eventual finalist and someone who has been making big strides at the Under 17 level as well.
Matt was runner up in the U15 Boys Plate.
Results are not in yet for the U15 Mixed Doubles but it seems Matt & Caragh, and Brandon & Danielle were knocked out in the first round.
