Badminton - No Speed Limits!!!

Badminton is a fun and exciting sport.
Beginners can have as much fun as the most highly skilled professional!
It is the fastest racquet sport in the world with the fastest smash ever recorded being timed at 421 kmh (262 mph) by Malaysian player Tan Boon Heong at the 2009 Japan Open.
Badminton is an Olympic Games sport, and is also played at the Commonwealth Games and it’s popularity around the world consistently ranks it in the top ten off all sports on the planet, in terms of player numbers.
Here in the Manawatu we have a thriving and enthusiastic badminton community that caters for all abilities, ages and ethnicities.
At the junior level we host the largest badminton tournament in Australasia with the North Island Age Group Championships being held every year, we also host several Central Region inter provincial ties for under 19s, 17s, 15s and under 13s along with our local primary and secondary school competitions.
At senior level our clubs cater for both recreational and competitive players. There is the Super League which goes all year around and is a mixture of business house teams, social teams, family/friend teams and also some of our top competitive players. Club teams can also be entered in the Super League and are competing against other club teams for inter-club trophies.
A growing trend internationally and one which is evident here in the Manawatu is the growth of Masters Badminton, we have a growing number of players 40 and 50 years or older who play regularly at our local clubs and this has enabled us to field a number of representative masters and veterans teams.
So if you are interested in giving badminton a try or are returning to the sport we would love to hear from you.
Kia ora koutou - Thank you all!
