Hawkes Bay Junior Open Champs June 5 - 7 Results

Our junior under 13, under 15 and under 17 sides travelled to Hastings to contest the Hawkes Bay Junior Open Championships last weekend.

The individuals were held on the Saturday with the teams event taking place on Sunday & Monday.

Congratulations to our under 13 side who won their teams event.

Our under 17 side placed third. A composite team made of Wellington & Wanganui players won it and Bay of Plenty came second.

Under 13s

Boys Singles

Junius Ong and Arrooran Jeyamohan both made the Semi Finals, Arrooran coming real close but losing in extension 33 - 31.

Mixed Doubles

Arrooran Jeyamohan & Rebecca Ye were runner ups in the mixed doubles. Losing the final 31-13.

Girls Doubles

Pryanka Archavya teamed up with Niamh Alley from Hawkes Bay and came runner up in the girls doubles.

Under 15s

Boys Singles

Matt Wapp made it to the Semi Finals in the boys singles losing to Wei-Ming Lim the eventual winner 21 - 13, 21 - 11. Sang-Ho Kim lost in the Quarter Finals to Ben Morgan from Wellington North.

Boys Doubles

Brandon Rose & Ehaseen Tanseen made the Semi Finals as did Matt Wapp & Sang-Ho Kim

Mixed Doubles

Matt Wapp & Caragh Alley (Hawkes Bay) won the mixed doubles in two sets against Pingkan Polak and Wei-Min Lim. A great result!

Girls Doubles

Tough day for our Manawatu combinations, Dinithi Bowatte & Danielle Skarott along with  Jessica Rich and Kristen Taylor who both lost in the first round but fought hard both going down in 3 games.

Under 17s

Boys Singles

Thomas Lavendar made it through to the Semi Finals after beating one of the seeded players Hugh Sercombe from Canterbury along the way. He went down to Elliot Pike the Central Regions top ranked player.

Joseph Wilson lost a close 3 game match to Jamie Young of Wellington in the Quarter Finals.

Girls Singles

Ruawai Te Rata lived up to her seeding and was runner up in the girls singles, losing to Alyse Derby the Regions top ranked girl. She lost in the final 21-13, 21-13.

Girls Doubles

Ruawai Te Rata & Emily Beard (Wanganui) won the girls doubles in the final against the Bay of Plenty combination, Brooke Wynyard & Kirsten Broad.

Boys Doubles

Thomas Lavendar and Xinyuan Xao made it to the Semi Finals losing in a 3 setter. Elijah Paul & Joseph Wilson also made the Semi Finals but went down to eventual winners Elliot Pike & Jacob Morgan in two games.

Mixed Doubles

Joseph Wilson & Kavithya Senthilinathan were runner ups, losing in the final 21 - 7, 21 - 16 to Jacob Morgan & Alyse Derby
